Sharing Vans to Get Youth Outdoors
Introducing the BAWTmobiles!BAWT and City CarShare have formed a unique partnership to give you an easier and more affordable way to take hundreds of youth to wilderness areas. Transportation to wilderness areas is difficult for anyone without access to a vehicle, but it is even more difficult and expensive for a youth agency or school to transport a classroom full of students. In fact, bureaucratic, budgetary and legal requirements for transporting youth are often the largest hurdles. The BAWTmobiles are here to help! By joining City CarShare through the BAWT program, you have access to two BAWTmobiles to transport youth. These vehicles are Sienna minivans. Each can hold one driver and up to 6 passengers, plus room for cargo. You’ll also have access to all of City CarShare’s hundreds of vehicles for any trips you need to take that don’t include transporting kids, such as gathering food, carting all the tents and sleeping bags you borrow from BAWT, or to attend meetings or run errands. How it works: It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3!
All youth development staff and teachers that qualify for the program must first become a City CarShare member. All members then have the ability to reserve the vans online, and then access them with their electronic key - called a fob. While the standard City CarShare member will also have access to the minivans - which will in turn see more use, and hopefully keep fewer cars on the road - these members are able to reserve these vehicles for no more than two weeks in advance of their trip. The BAWT youth worker (who is a City CarShare BAWT member), on the other hand, is able to reserve the minivans for up to three months in advance. This means that City CarShare’s (CCS) BAWT members get priority access to the BAWTmobiles (minivans). Members are billed monthly and pay for the time they use the vehicle through a pricing structure that affords BAWT trained youth workers a significantly discounted rate.
