Check out BAWT's Fifth Annual Rafting Trip down the South Fork of the American River
July 26th and 27th, 2008

Who:  Anyone wanting to help BAWT get youth outdoors and have a great day rafting!

This trip was arranged by a former BAWT board member, Delton, who has been boating for over 20 years and has rafted on more than 25 different rivers throughout the West. He was accompanied by 6 other trained guides who are volunteering their time to make this trip happen.

Rafting: On one day we rafted the class III Gorge section of the river and on the other we braved the class III+ Chili Bar section. Each is about 10-12 miles long and took about 5 hours to complete.

The guides generously volunteered their time and the use of the rafts.

Camping: BAWT had a campsite at Camp Lotus (http://www.camplotus.com/) for those who wished to camp out Friday and Saturday evenings.  Camp Lotus has parking, hot showers and a camp store that sells fresh baked muffins and lattes!  Guests can arrive the night before and camp with BAWT and have fun around the campfire, play volleyball and socialize over dinner and breakfast. Space is limited. Camp Lotus is kid friendly!

Where: 30 miles east of Sacramento; 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco.  Directions are located at http://www.camplotus.com/map.htm

Food: BAWT provided soft drinks and lunch during the raft days: cold-cut sandwiches, veggie pitas, & fruit/melon. Rafters were on their own for breakfast and dinner while camping at Camp Lotus. There was a small convenience store that served fresh baked muffins and there are several restaurants within a 10 minute drive.
