Leadership Trainings
This intensive, 5-day, entry-level backpacking course is the heart of BAWT’s programs and is designed to give youth workers the skills needed to take youth out on a wide variety of outdoor adventures. Completion of the course allows access to the BAWT gear libraries.
This entry level course covers all the basic skills needed to successfully take youth on car-camping based overnight trips. Over two days, participants will learn valuable car-camping skills: day hiking, basic safety and other practical outdoor activities. A four-hour Gear Orientation (GO!) leads to completion of the course, which allows access to the BAWT gear libraries and support services.
To gain access to BAWT Gear Libraries, FLT participants must attend a Gear Orientation offered at BAWT’s Oakland and Milpitas offices. Those with qualified prior field experience may attend GO! as well, and gain access to the Gear Libraries.

This allows for flexibility in both time and cost, and provides BAWT with an opportunity to tailor the curriculum specifically to the needs of the contracted youth agency. Contract courses are not available during the months of May and June. Please contact Chelsea Griffie for more information about contracting BAWT at: 510-452-2298 x301 or by email at programs@bawt.org.
